Dental health is a very important part of your pet’s overall health, and dental problems can cause, or be caused by, other health problems.
Your pet’s teeth and gums should be checked at least once a year by your veterinarian for early signs of problems and to keep your pet’s mouth healthy.
A basic dental exam can be done by our veterinarians at your yearly wellness visit but, for safety and comfort, the dental cleaning must be performed under general anesthesia. Before this procedure, we run a pre-surgical blood panel to ensure your pet’s ability to tolerate the anesthesia and to make sure your pet has no underlying health issues. Your pet is closely monitored throughout the surgical procedure and recovery until awake and alert.
Our Dental Procedure for dogs and cats includes the following:
- Pre-surgical blood panel (required for all pets 5 years and older)
- Scaling and polishing
- Pain injection
- Extractions if needed
- Radiographs
- TGH medication
